IT IS one of the most talked about shows of the year so what better way in which to celebrate a theatre milestone.

Amateur societies have just this year in which to stage the smash hit show Calendar Girls. And they are queuing up to do just that.

So let’s hear it for the ladies of Honley Players who are marking the society’s 40th year in its own theatre with their version of Calendar Girls, the play that took the world by storm when it hit the stage and screen almost a decade ago.

The Honley society thinks it may be the first in Huddersfield to stage it and say the show is so well known that there is lots of interest in the production.

"So far there has already been a lot of interest and people don’t seem to mind having to do what’s necessary and bare all," said a spokeswoman.

The cast includes many familiar Honley faces including Andrea Gosslin, a founder member of the society along with Beverly Turner, Hannah King and Mark Thewlis, all very experienced actors. They are joined by Emma Spragg, Lynsay Richards, Julie Berry, Meg Plummer, Jenny Taylor, Matthew Walshaw, Ruth Jepson, Deborah Newton and Ash Legg.

Performances begin at the society’s Southgate Theatre on Tuesday September 11 and continue until September 15 at 7.30pm. There is also a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
