HE’S not the sort of detective you’d want on your case.

His bumbling antics might make you laugh but this is one sleuth who doesn’t have a clue.

Halifax Thespians has chosen Peter Gordon’s play Murdered To Death. It opens at the Playhouse in Halifax on Tuesday.

This is an hilarious spoof of the quintessential Agatha Christie-style country house murder mystery.

A murder takes place, but when Detective Inspector Pratt turns up on the doorstep, you suspect that he wouldn’t spot the culprit if he (or she) turned up in handcuffs.

The Halifax society has wisely put the role of this not so super sleuth into the experienced hands of actor Keith Royston.

Keith’s recently had great success directing the Calendar Girls for Huddersfield Thespians at the Lawrence Batley Theatre but he’s just the man to nail the laughs. Guilty of being a terrific actor? He certainly is.

Not that he will be short of support. Terry Baynham will play his trusty sidekick and Veronica Moran, well-known in Huddersfield as actress and director has a peach of a role.

Veronica gets to play one of those elderly busybody characters Agatha Christie was so good at. The type who always seems to be around when murder is committed!

The cast includes Alun Jones, another experienced actor often seen in productions in Huddersfield.

Ian Slim directs and the show runs from May 7 to May 11 with evening performances at 7.30pm plus a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
