She wowed audiences in Huddersfield earlier this year with her performance in the musical Hot Mikado.

And now Laura Crowther is centre stage again, though this time with a society in Halifax.

Laura follows up her appearance in Huddersfield Light Opera Company’s production of the Hot Mikado at the Lawrence Batley Theatre with another Gilbert and Sullivan inspired show.

The Huddersfield-based singer takes the lead in Halifax Light Opera Society’s production of the Broadway version of The Pirates of Penzance later this month.

The show is at the Victoria Theatre in Halifax, from November 13 – 16 with evening performances plus a Saturday matinee.

Laura was a well established performer in the area before she took off for London and a post-graduate degree at the Royal Academy of Music.

She did a music degree in Huddersfield before going to London to study musical theatre.

While in London she sang twice at the Royal Albert Hall.

Laura is now back in town and earlier this year rejoined the Light Opera after an absence of six years to play Yum Yum.

Now she’s leading the cast in Halifax where she should feel right at home, as the cast includes a number of performers who have appeared in Huddersfield, many living in the Elland and Brighouse areas.

They include Steve Convey (Major-General), Ashley Davis (Pirate King), Rachel Rogers (Edith), Pippa Davis (Kate), Peter McDonnell (Sergeant of Police) and seasoned Gilbert and Sullivan performer Steven Greenwood (Sam).
