DERELICT buildings, abandoned machinery and decaying landscapes might not sound the most obvious subjects for photography enthusiasts.

But an exhibition which opened at Batley at the weekend proved that Decay... or the Photographer’s Three Rs: Rot, Rust and Ruin can inspire powerful images.

“It’s a stunning exhibition,” says Batley Art Gallery exhibition co-ordinator Mark Milnes.

“The images are evocative and poetic and it’s well worth a visit to the gallery to see them.”

The images are the work of the Yorkshire Monochrome Group and form the group’s annual exhibition at the gallery.

The YMG is a group of photographers who meet once a month in Shipley.

Anyone interested in monochrome photography and who is prepared to contribute to the meeting by taking along and showing their prints is welcome.

On average about 40 photographers usually attend the meetings.

The group’s aim is to encourage monochrome photography by producing, showing and discussing prints.

Members work together to mount exhibitions and share knowledge and ideas and meet every month to enjoy presentations by invited speakers.

The gallery is open from 9.30am to 7pm on Mondays and Wednesdays and 9.30am to 5pm on Tuesdays Thursdays and Fridays.

Saturday hours are 9am to 4pm.
