MUSIC travels well. Colne Valley Male Voice Choir knows that well which is why its singers are delighted to be heading for the south coast to sing in Cornwall.

It is two years since the choir returned from a trip to Cornwall victorious. Their singing won them first prize in 2007 at the Cornish International Male Voice Choir Festival where they were also named the event’s best British choir.

About 60 singers are making the return trip next month to this year’s festival but there won’t be a whiff of competitiveness about this trip.

The choir won’t actually be fighting it out with other choirs. They’ve been invited not as competitors but as the festival’s guest show choir.

The group will stay in Newquay overlooking Fistral beach along with members of Tideswell Male Voice Choir.

Peter Davies, musical director of the Huntingdon Male Voice Choir has taken over as the festival’s director, stepping into the shoes of Dr Roy Wales who has retired.

Colne Valley’s own musical maestro Thom Meredith has been invited to adjudicate in Cornwall this year, another good reason for the Colne Valley men to accept a guest spot rather than compete.

The singers will be leading workshops, will sing in a gala concert in Truro and will also be taking part in other events in Newquay and St Ives.
