IT IS probably the biggest event of their year and ours.

For on Saturday, June 19, we get to hear for the first time the sound of Colne Valley Boys Choir (pictured right).

This is the new choir founded just weeks ago by Colne Valley Male Voice Choir.

The adult singers went into local schools and clearly convinced a new generation of youngsters that singing in a male voice choir is fun. The adults had a great time too.

The result is that the newly-formed choir has been hard at work rehearsing for its first big night.

That comes on June 19 when they share the stage at Holy Trinity Church in Huddersfield with their adult counterparts.

Both choirs are conducted by Thom Meredith. Accompanists are Keith Swallow for the male voice choir and Chris Pulleyn for the boys’ choir.

Tickets are £7 for adults and £5 for eight to 16-year-olds from Jeff Bamforth on 01484 322641 or go to www.colnevalleymvc.co.uk

The programme is varied with the boys joining the chaps for a number of items including the Scooby Doo Song, a Gospel Melody and the Irish Blessing. Both groups will contribute their own items too.

It should be a big night for the Colne Valley choirs and for music in Huddersfield.

The concert starts at 7.15pm.
