FINGERS crossed for Howard Beaumont who on Sunday will make a second attempt to play an organ concert at the Rex Cinema in Elland.

Howard, who was born in Halifax, should have opened the cinema’s Sunday concert season in January.

But an accident which happened as Howard was carrying a large keyboard put paid to that.

Howard had played a concert at Scarborough library and was emerging from a lift carrying the keyboard when he got tangled in a display stand. He wrenched his shoulder and was unable to play the January concert in Elland.

He has now recovered from the injury and barring any further mishaps, he should be at the Rex on Sunday (March 18) to play at 2.30pm.

Howard has played cinema organs at venues across the country including the Odeon, Leicester Square.

He has become well known in recent years as the resident organist at the Scarborough Spa Complex, playing in the famous Spa Grand Hall and Suncourt.

Howard is regularly featured on the radio programme, The Organist Entertains and has 20 recordings to his credit.

Doors open for the concert at 2.00pm, it begins at 2.30 and lasts for about two hours.

Admission is £4.10 and the programme includes a short film novelty.
