IT’S a spring spectacular that should pack Huddersfield Town Hall.

For hosts Brighouse and Rastrick Band have lined up one of the country’s most talked about bands to share its next massed bands concert.

B and R are calling this spring special, A Night At The Opera.

But they could just as well have titled it, England and Wales Unite based on the concert line up.

For Brighouse and Rastrick’s guests as Cory Band, from South Wales who are fast becoming firm favourites with Huddersfield audiences.

This stunning band has been a regular at the Town Hall for several years, sharing a platform with Honley Male Voice Choir.

On March 24, it will be brass banding all the way with a concert packed with favourite melodies from the world of opera.

Making the music will be the superb musicians of two top bands. B and R are the current National Champions of Great Britain and Cory are the British Open Champions.

To match that skill, the band has brought in a conductor of international stature.

Owain Arwell Hughes will be the concert’s “man in the middle” and he should have no trouble feeling at home in Huddersfield Town Hall where he was once a regular visitor during the Eighties as conductor of Huddersfield Choral Society.

He has been Principal Guest Conductor of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra for some years and despite living in London has never lost contact with the musical world of his homeland.

Owain Arwell Hughes founded the Cardiff Welsh Proms and is still its artistic director.

He is relishing his return to the town hall where he spent several seasons with the Choral.

Tickets go on general sale tomorrow (February 11) 10am until noon at Ryecorn Wholefoods shop, Bethel St, Brighouse and then from all the usual Kirklees outlets from February 15 on 01484 223200.
