ONE of the area’s leading operatic societies takes a bold step next week towards making live theatre more affordable for all.

Woodhouse Operatic Society’s production of the music theatre show, A Chorus Line opens at the Lawrence Batley Theatre on Tuesday.

And the society has taken the decision to reduce the price of show tickets in a bid to attract a larger and wider audience.

All tickets for the main house show will be available at the same price of £10.

Tickets prices for both professional and amateur musical productions having risen steeply over the last few years.

Societies are ever more aware of families having to be more cost-conscious in the current financial climate and so Woodhouse has taken this bold step in an attempt to make the production more affordable to many.

Tickets will still be allocated and numbered by the theatre, but £10 will secure the theatre’s best seats as well as those in the side circles. However, there are no concessions.

The production opens on Tuesday and runs each evening at 7.15pm until Saturday, when there is also a matinee at 2.15pm.

Among those taking their first principal roles for the society are Catherine Jagger and Laura Roberts, most recently seen in Huddersfield Amateur Operatic Society’s production of Fame.

Northern Ballet pupil James Buckley, makes his debut for Woodhouse and making a welcome return to the company since last starring with the company in Singing In The Rain in 2001, is Scott Armstrong.

The show is directed by David Lockwood, the choreographer is Cathy Peters and music lecturer Josh Goodman is musical director.
