Marsden Jazz Festival has many exciting sounds and sights — from the lively parade in Peel Street to live performances from internationally acclaimed musicians and bands.
Thousands of revellers and musicians descend on Marsden each year to join the fun — transforming the village into a swinging jazz haven.
Based on previous years (and what's been promised for the 2015 festival), we've made a list of some things we hope to spot over the weekend — see how many you can tick off the list!
Here's 10 things we hope to see at Marsden Jazz Festival:
1. A musical parade dancing down Peel St
The Street Music Parade is back on Sunday October 10 at 2pm — and you can join the fun! Read all about it here.
2. Kids joining in with jazz
Start 'em young — you never know, you might have a jazz prodigy in the family!
3. Weird and wonderful instruments
We don't know what this is, but it looks fun. And we bet it makes one helluva noise.
4. World famous jazz musicians
First one to spot internationally-acclaimed saxophonist Jean Toussaint, who is playing Marsden Mechanics Hall on the Sunday night, wins. You might even bump into him at the bar!
5. Marvellous mechanical contraptions
Like this masterpiece.
6. Real cool cats (aka hipsters)
An event like is this bound to attract a few smooth types, as well as scores of jazz fans — keep your eyes peeled for lots of beards, people that like things 'ironically' and maybe the odd vintage bike.
7. Smooth sounds in the bandstand
Catch the Holme Valley Music Centre Big Band, Greenhead College Big Band, the Heckmondwike Grammar School Soul Band and Honley High School Jazz Groups and more take to the bandstand over the weekend.
8. A bit of sunshine
It's been a mixed bag of late, so fingers crossed the sun will shine for the festival weekend!
9. Festival t-shirts
Whether you sport this year's t-shirt (with the new logo) or you've been going for years and have a collection to choose from, you've not been to a festival unless you've got the snazzy t-shirt to prove it.
10. A jazzy church service
A festival favourite, the Jazz Service at The United Church, Marsden, features live music and lots of congregational participation!
This year's service will be accompanied by New Orleans Wiggle.
