Helicopters are usually only reserved for royalty.

But it will not be princes or princesses, but rock ‘n’ roll kings who will arrive on a specially chartered one landing in Holmfirth next Tuesday.

Californian four piece Rival Sons have chosen the town as the place to kick off the start of their massive world tour.

And to the delight of local fans, they will be performing for free at the special, one-off event at the Picturedrome.

It is a huge difference to most of their shows, which have sold out dozens of times and have been performed all over the world from Johannesburg to Tokyo.

The event is part of a campaign by Jack Daniels, called Jack Rocks, who wants to bring rock ‘n’ roll out of the big cities into smaller surroundings and are offering 650 free tickets for the gig via their website.

Lucky ticket winners will also arrive in style to Holmfirth on commissioned buses, one of which will collect people in the morning from outside Zephyr on Byram Street.

They will arrive in Holmfirth in time to see the band touch down at Holmfirth Cricket Club. The four rock musicians will spend the day hanging out with the town’s residents and will film a video on location, ahead of the evening gig.

Rival Sons will play a headline set, supported by Wakefield ‘ones to watch’ Crybabycry and Arctic Monkeys’ label mates, The Bohicas.

It will end with an official after party at the town’s Box Office venue, hosted by rock ‘n’ roll clubnight This Feeling and featuring a DJ set from Radio 1 star Clara Amfo.

Michael Boaler, a spokesman for Jack Daniel’s, said: “Jack Daniel’s has a long and proud history of championing real, high octane live music and we can’t wait to bring some of our US home grown rock ‘n’ roll to Holmfirth to give the residents a day they won’t forget with Rival Sons.

“Perhaps we’ll inspire the next generation with the gig at the Picturedrome”.
