Former Huddersfield X Factor star Carolynne Poole is to unveil her debut album.

And she will do so start with a special showcase event in Manchester.

Carolynne spent the end of last year writing and recording the album in America, and says it will be an upbeat mix of country, pop and rock ‘n’ roll.

It is three years since she reached the live shows of the hit TV show, while living in Birkby with her husband, footballer David Poole.

The couple have now split and Carolynne is living in Manchester.

She was brought up in Leeds and joined a country band at the age of 14. She was also a songwriter and at 17 moved to London and began work doing that for BMG.

In 2003 she was on Fame Academy on TV and finished third. She later toured with singer Tony Christie but after six years away returned to her Yorkshire roots when she married Poole, who played for Stockport County.

Carolynne will launch the new album on May 28 with a special VIP album showcase event at Manchester club Gorilla.

And there was a sneak preview for fans at the Manchester City game today when she played her single “I Love You But Shut Up” to fans before the final game of the season.

Carolynne says: “It’s really the first time I’ll have played my own material with a full band in Manchester, and I can’t wait for my family and friends to hear it all.

“I know I’ll also be really nervous.

“Most of the songs I wrote while I was out in America so it will be a first chance for people to hear what I’ve been up to!”

Those friends include plenty of famous faces - Carolynne is best mates with former Coronation Street star Lucy-Jo Hudson, and is pals with a host of city VIPs.

Her first single from the album, I Love You But Shut Up, has been getting plenty of radio airplay.

The album fetaures fun, upbeat tracks but also deeply personal moments, including the ballad Standing on Top of the World.

Carolynne says: “That song was about when I was going through really bad times when I split from my husband and a lot of the stuff I was going through during The X Factor.

“But overall the album is really upbeat and reflects where I’m at now. It’s been a really creative year for me.”
