Rockers Mr Shiraz have won an award for their single No Prophecy.

The Huddersfield group walked away from the prestigious Pure Rawk Awards in London as winners of the single of the year award.

And it was double joy for the town as the band’s second home, The Parish, picked up the prize for best independent venue, beating off stiff competition including Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club.

Singer Mikey Baird, who was nominated as frontman of the year last year, said: “We are beyond stoked with the award.

“I know it’s a cliché to say that it’s nice to be nominated, but to walk away with the award is beyond awesome.

“To say that we weren’t expecting to win is an understatement.

“We just thought it would be fun to head down to the awards, get drunk and party the night away.

“When it was announced we’d won we celebrated ‘til the early hours!”

The band were not going to be playing a hometown show until the summer but have now decided a celebration gig is in order.

They will be playing The Parish on April 5 with their buddies Servers, the same day their new album ‘God Hates Mr Shiraz’, which features the award winning song, is released.
