They brought psychedelica back to the masses.

And now late 1990s Indian inspired band Kula Shaker hope to work their magic on Holmfirth crowds, when they play at the Picturedrome on May 9.

It will be one of 11 UK dates for the four-piece band featuring Crispian Mills (singer and guitarist), Alonza Bevan (bassist), Paul Winterhart (drummer) and Harry Broadbent (keyboardist), who have just released their fifth studio album, K 2.0.

The band, which originally included keyboardist Jay Darlington in place of Harry, rose to fame in 1995 with their blend of traditional Indian instruments and western rock.

They had several top 10 singles such as Tattva, Hey Dude and Hush and two top 10 albums K and Peasants, Pigs & Astronauts before they disbanded in 1999.

The group officially reformed with Harry in 2006 off the back of a charity album in 2004 and have since put out three further albums.

Who sang Return of the Mack?

Jay had gone onto become a touring member of Oasis, where he stayed until the Brit pop band broke up in 2009.

Commenting on their reformation, Crispin said: “I think what many people like about the band is that we never treated it as a career.

“For us it was always a calling, and that came across at gigs.

“We can only do this when the timing is right.”

Tickets cost £22.50 from online or the venue box office.
