They say those with birthdays in January get the worst deal.

But week long hangovers and empty pockets were well-disguised when revellers packed in to Bar 1:22 to party like it was the end of the world for Huddersfield events promoter Slop Pop, which was celebrating its first birthday.

Grunge, punk, psych pop were all part of the wild but fluid night, which metaphorically tore the whole stage up and showed there was no room for January blues.

Well-wishers arrived from 6pm for the longhaul event, which celebrates local talent and on the night saw five bands and an electronic soundsystem shake the new year into action.

The Orchid Family, Cafuné, Mad Love, Forever Cult and Allusondrugs were joined by late night act Sine Wave.

The main man behind the event was Danny Sharp, who gave the venue some of its busiest nights in 2015, when he started the monthly Slop Pop showcases from scratch.

The sounds of the trumpets bounced off the walls, causing a pogo dancing ripple effect across the floors.

Five-piece dream punk Cafuné were at the helm, their softly pounding bass line and swirling guitar warming everyone up into the feel good mindframe.

Next up was Danny’s own band, Mad Love.

The audience jumped and a mosh pit ensued while they ran through arguably the best set of the night. It was the clever stitching together of their gritty, punk and pop set that gave their sound its own distinctive and fresh noise with witty, honest lyrics . It seemed to gain the band the biggest crowd of the night.

Mad Love followed while Allusondrugs finished off the live music with their raw vocals and distortion on over drive.
