The best of Motown, funk and soul landed in Holmfirth after a new champagne and cocktail bar opened its doors.

Building on the success of their town centre cocktail lounge, Voda has expanded to open a Holmfirth night spot, offering food, fizz and fun.

The Voda Bar and Cellar, which opened on December 19, introduced its sweetshop cocktail menu, including liquorice Mojitos, Drumstick-themed drinks and cocktails inspired by Skittles, pear drops and pick 'n' mix.

And Motown and the best of 1970s soul and funk ensured the Holmfirth venue was just as lively as its town centre counterpart.

As well as offering a night out, Voda Holmfirth will open its doors at lunchtime to offer Italian food and coffee and cakes, hoping to be part of the town's cafe culture.

Gavin Pearson, who owns the bar alongside partners Chris Charalambous and Kanwarpreet Singh, said a Facebook page for the new bar already had almost 700 likes and said people were excited about the new venue opening.

He said: "There's a gap in the market in Holmfirth. There's been more going on over the weekend in the last year, I've been out in Holmfirth myself and it's been so busy.

"We specialise in cocktails so we wanted to move the brand up here."

The bar, which has room for around 70 people, enjoyed a grand opening on Friday December 19, traditionally known as 'Mad Friday'.

As well as weekend revellers, Gavin hopes to see people come to the bar for lunch, afternoon tea, or post-work drinks.

"Friday teatimes we get business people wanting a bottle of champagne," he added.

The bar was designed with the classic style of the town centre Voda, with leather booths, and a brand new bar.
