A festival atmosphere came to Huddersfield for Mumford and Sons' debut appearance - with an impressive line-up of acts.

Mumford & Sons invited other bands to join them on two stages in the revamped Greenhead Park for their jubilant show in June 2012.

There were sets from Michael Kiwanuka, Nathaniel Rateliff, The Moulettes, Willy Mason, Slow Club, The Correspondents and Huddersfield band The Rag Tags.

Marcus Mumford told the crowd: “We love being here.

“We wanted to bring everything we enjoy about live gigs together and that’s what we tried to do.

“You have a lovely town here, with great shops and great moorland.

“The old people are great, as we found out when we went down to Bradley, and the young people are great, as they’ve turned up here in the park.

“Thanks very much for having us. We know it’s been raining and it’s cold, so grab the person next to you and let’s dance.”

Fellow band member Winston Marshall also got the crowd on their side by remarking: “It’s just an excuse to celebrate Huddersfield Town’s promotion, so well done”.

The band, which was formed in Putney, London in 2007, sold more than four million copies of their first album Sigh No More and much of the set featured numbers from that.

But there were also several offerings from the new album, due out in September, and every single one went down well with the crowd of young, old and very old.

The band are clearly at home on stage and looked to enjoy every second of their set.

So, too, did the crowd who had paid £50 each to get to the concert.
