Huddlefest could be the next big thing on the Huddersfield music scene.

Organisers are hoping 10,000 will flock to Greenhead Park in September for a day of live music, from rock to reggae - perhaps recreating the festival atmosphere enjoyed during Mumford and Sons Huddersfield debut in June 2012.

Here's a look back at the weekend Mumford rocked Greenhead Park:

It took just a few seconds for the dancing to start.

And within a minute, there were almost 8,000 people singing along at the tops of their voices.

Mumford & Sons know how to throw a great party and they did just that in Greenhead Park in June 2012.

Yes it was cold, yes it was raining and yes, there were huge queues for the food and for the loos.

But as the opening bars of the Mumfords’ first number of a 90-minute set burst from the main stage, there was only one thing on the mind of the impressive crowd: it was time to party.

Mumford & Sons were true to their word. They brought their Gentlemen Of The Road Stopover tour to Huddersfield with the intention of creating a mini festival in the town.

And they lived up to expectations.

They headlined a concert featuring eight bands over seven hours in the park, with no hint of trouble.

They and their fellow musicians even enjoyed a game of tennis on the Greenhead Park courts.

And they involved local businesses throughout the day and night, stopping at The George Hotel – where Marcus Mumford was joined by his new bride actress Carey Mulligan – and holding after-parties at Tokyo, The Other Rooms and Bar 1:22.

Kirklees Council, who organised the event to kick off a week of parties to mark the Diamond Jubilee, were delighted with the response.

A spokesman said: “It’s fabulous for Huddersfield and great to see so many people enjoying the festival and the town.”
