Acoustic singer-songwriter Jack Manning has become something of a veteran in venues celebrating Huddersfield’s folk scene.

Armed with just his guitar and an impressive catalogue of his own songs, he has been captivating audiences’ attention for several years with his wry and modern twist on traditional ballads whilst studying at University of Huddersfield.

He is also the face behind several successful folk nights that run at Herberts Bar and The Nightingale and lucky co-performer with Tina Turner’s backing band.

Influenced from a young age by a raft of folk heavyweights, such as Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, Jack steers away from ‘typical love songs’ to create passionate, honest and funny tracks that focus on his life in the town, including late night trips to the Camel Club and his experiences of being made temporarily homeless, alongside an exploration of issues shared by untold numbers of others in his generation.

This includes attempts to impress girls through his songs and struggles to realise his dreams, which he tells in a way that allows him to strike up an instant bond with the listener.
