He’s toured the world paying tribute to one of his idols — and now Ben Bowman will bring his world-famous Michael Jackson show to Huddersfield.
Ben, 29, will headline Huddersfield’s Wannasee Festival next month, giving revellers the chance to enjoy the King of Pop’s hits some seven years after his death.
Ben discovered he could impersonate the music icon as a teenager and pursued performing after he left school.
He said: “I was a huge Michael Jackson fan and learned all the routines.
“Then I discovered I could sound a bit like him when I was around 16. Now, 11 years down the line I’m touring with the full live band and dancers.”
Ben played at last year’s Wannasee Festvial in Bishop Aukland and will Huddersfield and Penrith events in July and August respectively.
“I love Wannasee Festival, it’s set up really well,” he said. “It’s always a pleasure doing a festival, for me as a fan of Michael Jackson it’s the closest I’ll ever get to feeling what his gigs would have been like for him. I thoroughly enjoyed Wannasee last year and can’t wait to come back.
“With these shows it’s always a very high standard of tribute. With Michael Jackson there’s always an element of excitement, an explosive element in what you’re doing because Michael Jackson was such a spectacle.”
Having performed as the King of Pop, Ben said he could not imagine doing anything else.
“I went to Bahrain and played for royalty,” he said. “Last year we got to go to Hong Kong to play to Manchester United Football Club sponsors.”
Ben lives in Kent but is used to life on the road due to a busy touring schedule.
He said: “We tour all over the country. I’m really looking forward to this summer because it’s all festivals and I love doing festivals.”
“Wannasee really is something different. It’s half the price of a ticket to see Beyonce, for example, and there’s some great music and very talented actsp playing tribute to some amazing bands. It’s an excuse to party!”.
Ben Bowman’s favourite songs to perform:
- Wanna Be Startin’ Somthin’
- Billie Jean
- Man In The Mirror
