Huddersfield’s markets, shops and unforgettable scenery have struck a chord with two musicians, who have sung the town's praises in a new music video.

New York, Paris and Rio have not had a look in with Crooks and Claridge, aka Pat Allison and Ben Isaacs, who decided to release a music video after their hearts were stolen by the town after moving here in the mid 2000s.

Called a Huddersfield Love Song, it pays homage to some of the places that make hard for them to ever move away from the area through a checklist of venues, well-known people and video snapshots of the town’s residents.

Greenhead Park , Marsden Moor and even adult book store, John’s Books, were name-checked in the four minute piece, which was recently unveiled on YouTube and already has clocked up over 800 views.

Meanwhile Harold Wilson, Simon Armitage and Bongo Dave also get a mention, on top of dozens of other places including the University of Huddersfield , Vinyl Tap and the infamous student halls, Storthes Hall, who are all honoured in the line ‘I am a terrier, barking for you.’

One of the band members, Pat Allison, who grew up in Sheffield said: “We’ve lived here since 2005 and we just love it.

“It’s a really close knit community and has a fantastic music scene-there’s so much going on all the time for a town the size that it is.

“It seems there’s a lot more going on here than in Leeds or even Manchester and it’s just gorgeous, it’s got pubs clubs and countryside all at once.”

They made the video with the help of Huddersfield film collective, Pictures and Noise, who have begun an ambitious campaign to make 100 videos in 100 days.

Pat said: “We approached them and came up with the idea for the video, Ben penned the lyrics and it just went from there.

“Most people were more than happy to get involved, which was great.

“It has just showed how multicultural and diverse the town is and we’ve covered everything and everyone, we even included a dog.

“It’s hard to choose my favourite place because there are so many but I love Marsden Moor and Vinyl Tap is probably another of my favourite places because I can buy records there, which is when I’m at my happiest.

“But the university is the reason we’re both here-we’re so tied to it and we just don’t want to leave.

“I hope that as many people as possible from Huddersfield see it and we just wanted to make people smile.”

The pair, who make lo-fi, experimental and entrancing recordings, released their first studio album today.

They will also be performing at a pay-what-you-want fundraising gig tonight - in aid of Hoot Creative Arts - in the loft space at Bates Mill, at 7.30pm, with their very own 18-piece orchestra.
