AN EVENING of seasonal music is in store at Huddersfield Town Hall next Saturday in the company of Huddersfield Methodist Choir.

The choir will be joined by Skelmanthorpe Band and by guests Hobson’s Chorus, the group of singers conducted by Jane Hobson.

Jane is a much admired mezzo-soprano who, when she is not conducting works, is tirelessly using her singing talents to raise money for a variety of charities.

She has appeared with the Methodist Choir before as a soloist in its performances of Handel’s Messiah.

These days her conducting skills are in almost as much demand as her vocal skills. She was appointed musical director of Skelmanthorpe Male Voice Choir earlier this year.

The concert is on December 19 at 7.15pm and promises a programme of seasonal and popular music of various styles.

Huddersfield Methodist Choir rehearses at Gledholt Methodist Church on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm and sings a wide range of music from well known sacred works through popular songs and classics to opera and modern compositions.

New singers and former members are always welcome.

Go along to a rehearsal or contact Lynne Rhodes (01484 542257) who will be pleased to help with any questions.

Alan Brierley will conduct the choir at next weekend’s concert.
