HUDDERSFIELD Music Society continues its series of Monday evening concerts with the Borromini Quartet.

The quartet, formed four years ago, comprises violinists James Toll and Naomi Burrell with Sam Kennedy playing viola and Peggy Nolan, cello.

The four will be at St Paul’s Hall in Huddersfield on Monday (December 10) to play Haydn’s String Quartet in D minor op 9 no1 and Mozart’s Quartet in A K 464.

They will also play two pieces by Boccherini: Quartet in E flat op 24 no 3 and Quartet in G minor op 24 no 6.

The musicians say they began to work as a quartet inspired by a passion for chamber music and the practical exploration of historical performance practices.

The quartet gave its debut performance at the Haydn Chamber Music Festival at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2009.

The wealth and charm of Boccherini's chamber works caught the players' imagination and they have recently made a recording of his string quartets, thanks to the inspirational support of James Boyd of the London Haydn Quartet.

Other projects have included a performance of Boccherini quartets and quintets with cellist Yoshika Masuda and, as principal members of The Manchester Consort, Haydn's Seven Last Words at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester.

The quartet also aspires to renew links with educational institutions where its members have previously studied, including Purcell School, Royal Irish Academy of Music, Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Manchester and Cambridge Universities.

The musicians play instruments loaned from the Becket Collection, all set up in the classical style.

The concert at St Paul’s begins at 7.30pm.
