IT’S too easy nowadays to put musicians in little genre boxes – indie, emo, goth, metal.
But Duke Special is one man who just refuses to be categorised.
His music is a mix of influences, from vaudeville and ragtime piano, folk and much more.
The Belfast singer-songwriter has been making his name on the live circuit for years but really came to notice in 2006, with his multi-platinum album Songs From The Deep Forest.
Now he’s back with new album, I Never Thought This Day Would Come.
It combines clever lyrics with moving vocals to create heartfelt ballads and tracks filled with wry humour or a dark, brooding edge underneath the beauty.
The best way to get the full Duke experience is live and you’re in luck, because he’s currently on a tour which includes gigs at Leeds Cockpit on Wednesday (April 29), Manchester Academy 3 on Thursday (April 30) and Newcastle’s Stage 2 on May 1.
