ARTISTS: Jazz Jamaica All Stars & Urban Soul Orchestra with special guest Brinsley Forde
VENUE: Leeds Town Hall
REVIEWER: Dave Cowan
STANDING on the Leeds Town Hall steps shortly before the gig I do believe I can feel the spirit of Bob Marley... I think to myself Bob Marley would have liked the giant stone lions outside the venue.
Inside there is a stall run by two Geordie rasta women who are doing quite well selling red, gold and green Rasta hats and clothing.
As Brinsley Forde sings Concrete Jungle, he says to us “What do we do when we hear reggae music?” and hundreds of people shout out as one “DANCE”.
The 30 strong orchestra and their instruments shine out.
At one end there are three singers – just like Bob Marley’s live show’s that we see in the vintage films.
Kinky Reggae pricks up the hairs on the back of my neck, I am now dancing and singing and feeling and wondering if this is a little bit like what it was like to be at a real Bob Marley concert.
Stir It Up, Redemption Song, No More Trouble, Slave Driver, are just some of the highlights of the classic Bob Marley album Catch A Fire.
Lively Up Yourself is the last one for now but this show is getting stronger and stronger and three little birds told me we might see them live in Huddersfield next year.
One hopes so.
