SCOUTING FOR GIRLS: I Wish I Was James Bond. OK, a forlorn wish and this will never make it as a Bond theme, but at least this fun frolic's not as beaten up as Daniel Craig.

RAZORLIGHT: Wire To Wire. Lolloping ballad that's not to be taken lightly at all.

PAUL WELLER: Sea Spray/22 Dreams. Another double A side from a musician who never gives less than value for money. The folky strut of Sea Spray is flipped with the title track from his critically-acclaimed number one album and harkens back to the 60s mod heyday with its crazy go-go pace.

SILVER: Through The Storm. The Silver-tongued one was originally from Bedford and then graduated from Newcastle University, so where his rapping roots come from remains somewhat a mystery. Its goth R&B that tells a tough tale about life's struggles – and that was before the credit crunch.

EXIT CALM: We’re On Our Own. Intensely atmospheric with soaring jagged guitars that'll slice straight through your inner consciousness. Skyscraping stuff – just don't look down.

THE VIEW: 5Rebbeccas. Congratulations to the Dundee band for the most unusual song title of the year – and they just about carry it off with crash bang wallop rock. In yer face big style.

THE KING BLUES: Save The World Got The Girl. There's something cheekily right about the happy-go-lucky cockneys that gets under the skin. The musical equivalent of a food fight that veers from reggae lilt to barn dance whirl and a right old Bad Mannerish-style knees-up in and among. The themes aren't always as happy as the sound with sad and sorry tales including the drudgery of small town life, rocky romanticism and frustrated urban dreams that'll never become reality. Lines like "this smell of kebab meat will always remind me of you" will not win them the girl and certainly won’t save the world.

VARIOUS: Stereo Sushi. Many may not be household names, but this is mainly gorgeous lush funk that'll raise your flagging spirits courtesy of the likes of Sonny J Mason, White Soul Project, Steven Stone, Soulstar Syndicate, Reel People, Shawn Christopher and The Sunburst Band.

ANASTACIA: Heavy Rotation. There's no denying she's got a somewhat, well, harsh voice. Anastacia runs the full gamut of sounds here from dancefloor to Motown-tinged pop, joyful reflection and slow-churning ballads. Around half hit the mark, but the rest don't miss by that far. It’s just the voice that starts to grate.

VARIOUS: Now That's What I Call Music ... 25 Years. The music compilation with more sequels than Rocky looks back with fondness at more than two decades. Spread across the three cds you'll find good stuff from James Blunt, Take That, the Kaiser Chiefs, The Killers, Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, Coldplay, Queen, Wham!, The Police, U2, Michael Jackson, UB40, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, REM, Robbie Williams, Oasis, Tina Turner, the Spice Girls and The Proclaimers.
