Oxjam Huddersfield Takeover is just a week away with dozens of bands set to play eight venues around town.

The now annual shindig in aid of Oxfam has grown from humble beginnings as a one-off charity gig at Zephyr bar in 2007.

It returned in 2010 as a mini-urban festival and has remained a firm favourite ever since.

Next Saturday’s Takeover will see Huddersfield town centre transformed with 50 local bands lined up to entertain punters all night long.

Venues taking part include Rhubarb, Five, The Parish, Verve, West Tavern, Bar 1:22, Head of Steam and the Kings Head.

Rockers should head to The Parish while acoustic music will be focused on at the Head of Steam.

Verve is specialising in hip-hop and rap and the remaining venues will offer a mix of indie, rock and other genres.

Local artists make up the majority of the line-up including Kelter, former Huddersfield University band Feeds, Johny Gibson, Steph and Matt, Byron Street Social and I Love Colour.

Bradford band Man Can't Fly – who were BBC 1 playlisted will also be performing after playing 2013 Leeds and Reading festivals.

Last year’s Oxjam raised more than £2,500 and organisers this year already have over £1,700 in the bank from preliminary events.

Marketing co-ordinator Katie Jagger, said: “It’s very exciting that it’s almost here.

“It’s been a long six months getting it all organised so we can’t wait to see the bands on stage.

“We’re particularly excited about Man Can’t Fly and Huddersfield’s own I Love Colour.”

Tickets to Oxjam on Saturday, October 19, are just £5 and can be bought from any of the eight venues or at www.wegottickets.com
