YORKSHIRE’S metallers are set to get their own event as part of the Leeds Festival Fringe.

The week-long event, launched last year as a warm up for the Leeds Festival, will this year include a Metal Fringe featuring 18 bands from across the city and beyond.

The three night event at Leeds venue Empire begins on August 19 and will consist of alternative rock (Friday), metal (Saturday) and hard rock (Sunday).

Amongst the bands playing on the Friday night are alternative rockers Down The Machine, who draw inspiration from Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden, while Saturday night's headlining act are revolutionary Leeds rock metal band Mishkin, who recently came third in the Red Bull Bedroom Jam out of 600 bands.

Other bands playing over the weekend include KarmaSlave, who will close the festival on Sunday evening.

Tickets (£5 for a full weekend ticket) will be available from Leeds music outlets and online retailers from Monday, July 11.

Profits will go to Martin House Children’s Hospice.
