FANCY a few nights On The Town, then now’s your chance.

Imagine it’s Forties’ New York and three young sailors are due some shore leave. Gabey is one of them and he recruits his mates Chip and Ozzie to help him find his special girl.

But first, before audiences can join Gabey and his mates on that journey later this year, Huddersfield Amateur Operatic Society needs your help.

They’ve already brought back Scott Armstrong who played for them so successful in a recent production of Boogie Nights. He will play Gabey, the sailor who searches the whole of New York for his special girl.

But the search is still on for two performers to play his friends Chip and Ozzie.

This is a show packed with dance and chorus numbers and anyone who fancies these roles needs to enjoy strutting their stuff.

The society is delighted to have cast Nicola Mara and Anastasia Morton as Claire and Hildy, two of the show’s female leads.

But they are still on the look out for a young performer to play a third major role as Ivy Smith.

For those who think the show isn’t familiar then consider just one song, New York New York.

It’s after all, what this show is about. Three sailors go on shore leave and fall, not just for a trio of girls but for a whole city!

The music is by the great Leonard Bernstein and book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green.

And the dance sequences will doubtless nod in the direction of another great, Jerome Robbins who set his Forties’ ballet Fancy Free to Bernstein's music.

This is great chance for anyone who loves musicals to get involved.

There are still other roles to be cast and new company members are welcome.

The production runs at the Lawrence Batley Theatre from November 8-13 and rehearsals begin on May 18 at the Wesley Centre in Stocks Walk, Almondbury.
