IF the global credit squeeze intensifies in 2008, more holiday home owners abroad might need extra rental income to cover running costs and mortgage repayments.
A new holiday venture might deliver that extra cash: MRI Overseas Property is linking with On Holiday Group to list 5,000 sun or ski properties in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Cyprus, Turkey, Bulgaria, Morocco and up-and-coming Cape Verde.
Rentals, ranging from weekend breaks to several months, start at £31.50 per night.
On Holiday is the latest wheeze from travel industry maverick Steve Endacott, who worked for leading tour operators including Airtours before turning to concepts using new technology outside the mainstream package market.
He says: “The traditional package holiday market is being seriously eroded by the availability of high-quality privately-owned overseas accommodation over the internet. Our site enables holidaymakers to book flights, transfers and accommodation, and we will distribute the service by 7,500 travel agents nationwide.’’
