We are used to Come and Sing style events in this area.

As a town bursting with musical talent, organisations which offer this simple way of joining others in singing some of our best loved music are usually well supported.

This weekend, there’s chance to join a very different sort of Come and Sing event. For one thing, the choir which gets together at Christ Church, New Mill tomorrow, will have its work recorded.

The project is to put together a CD of hymns old and new called Hymns of the North, Rejoice!

It is a joint venture between the Holme Valley Orchestra, the Holmfirth High School Community Arts Programme and the Millennium Chapel Gospel Choir from Bolton.

The singers are in two groups, children (the HHSCAP Choir - taken from Holmfirth High School and the pyramid) plus adults (the Holme Valley Community Choir) and some members of individual choirs.

The orchestrations are, with the exception of Jerusalem, all brand new, written especially for the album.

Tomorrow’s recording day sees the orchestra called from 10.30am to 6.30pm, the children from 10.00am to 2pm. Adults are expected to attend between 1.00pm and 4.30pm.

Sounds like it would be a good idea to take your sandwiches too because there’s a lot of singing to do.

All those taking part are asked to do is give their voices and commit to buying two CDs at £5 each to help fund the venture.

Music is provided and if you’d like to get involved, email hhscap@holmfirthhigh.co.uk
