THERE is a first in store next week for New Mill Male Voice choir.

Its members will sing at Thornhill Parish Church for the first time a week tonight, that’s March 16.

The choir, conducted by Alan Brierley, will share the concert platform with Wakefield Youth Choir.

The Wakefield singers are conducted by Geraldine Gaunt and Phil Needham.

The New Mill choir was formed in 1991 and has about 50 members.

It has hosted a series of successful concerts in Huddersfield Town Hall with big name guests.

For the New Mill choir’s conductor Alan Brierley, there will be a touch of nostalgia in this concert as he was, for many years, the conductor of Thornhill Male Voice choir.

The choir will sing traditional songs such as Myfanwy, Irish Blessing and American Trilogy as well as Cole Porter and Robbie Williams songs.

The Wakefield Youth Choir is a firm favourite in Thornhill and is returning for the third time.

The two choirs will sing together to close the concert with a performance of Jerusalem.

The concert begins at 7.00pm. Tickets on the door or from Thornhill Newsagents £6 ( concessions £5).
