HE is one of the country’s best known organists and on Wednesday he will be in Huddersfield to play a lunchtime concert.

For 32 years Nigel Ogden has presented BBC Radio 2’s The Organist Entertains and his style of music-making at the organ has made him one of the country’s most popular performers.

Where better to get a taste of that musical versatility than in Huddersfield Town Hall where Nigel plays a concert on December 3 at 1pm.

Thanks to his weekly programme, plus other radio and TV broadcasts, Nigel has appeared ‘on the air’ on some 2000 occasions.

He is the only organist ever to have broadcast a Wurlitzer (the Tower Ballroom, Blackpool organ) on Radio 3 playing solo items from the classical repertoire.

At next week’s concert, he will be playing a varied programme including Marching through the Classics (Verdi and Berlioz) Music from the Great Waltz (Strauss), O Holy Night (Adam) plus some of Nigel’s own arrangements including Mr Mozart takes a Sleigh Ride, Henderson and Conway – Seasonal Joe and Russ, Tower Ballroom Classics plus a peek into Santa’s Seasonal Songbook.
