PHOTOGRAPHER Pippa Ashworth uses her vast knowledge to help other budding snappers learn their craft.

And as her work has been selected for an international exhibition, which is on show everywhere from Sydney to New York, there can be little she doesn’t know about life behind the lens.

But Kirklees College lecturer Pippa was still amazed when told one of her photographs had beaten entries from 7,000 other photographers to make it into the worldwide exhibition which visits nine major cities.

Her image, which shows a child from Besease, a small village in Ghana, can be viewed as part of the Hahnemuhle exhibition in countries including Paris and New York.

Pippa said: “I was quite amazed to be chosen as an award winner out of 7,000 applicants worldwide.

“When the exhibition was in London, I was invited to the private view.

“The work demonstrated a huge variety of talent and skill and I felt quite privileged to be included.

“The work was printed up on high quality printers and beautiful fine art paper, which is an opportunity you don’t often have.”

Pippa, from Holmfirth, teaches photography as part of the college’s BTEC National and Foundation Diplomas in Art and Design at the Highfields Centre in Huddersfield and has worked for the college for over 20 years.

She is one of 43 photographers whose work is part of the Hahnemuhle Anniversary Photo Award Collection exhibition ‘travelling through photo capitals of the world’.

It was during a trip to Ghana transporting a generator and educational supplies across Africa, with a charitable trust that she captured the photograph which has made it to the exhibition.

It shows a child from Besease, a small village in Ghana, carrying a bowl on her head.

It features as part of the Collection commemorating the 425th anniversary of Hahnemuhle, the oldest German paper mill still producing paper for traditional and digital art.

Around 1,800 professional and amateur photographers from 45 countries entered more than 7,100 pieces of artwork for the exhibition.

The exhibition opened in Sydney in February and has since moved to Beijing and Berlin and opened in London in April.

It will now continue on to Paris, Hong Kong, New York, Cologne, and finally Istanbul in October.
