BRIGHOUSE and Rastrick Band opens its new concert season with a performance in its home town this month.
The band will be at St Martin’s Church on Thursday, September 25.
The concert will begin with light music and popular classics played on the organ by Brian Craven, the church’s own organist.
It will also feature the voice of teenager Rachel Crisp (pictured), who is delighted to have been invited back to sing with the band.
The 17-year-old from Clifton last appeared with the band two years ago, but only managed one song before having to rush home with a stomach virus.
She hopes to sail through this month’s concert, which she sees as the completion of “unfinished musical business”, without any further problems.
Rachel has been busy all summer, singing at several venues and church weddings around the Yorkshire area.
Her summer was rounded off with a 10-day residential course at Roedean School, Brighton, with the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, recording a CD and culminating in a concert at Chichester Cathedral on August 30.
On Saturday, September 20, she will sing at Fountains Abbey as the guest of Steeton Male Voice Choir.
She got the chance to appear with the choir after sweeping the board at the Wharfedale Music Festival in July and being awarded the Arthur Wilson Memorial Prize.
St Martin’s was re-ordered almost two years ago and has since played to a number of amateur and professional music groups. In recent months the church has hosted several highly successful music events.
They included the Yorkshire Youth Choir, a Midsummer Soiree by Brighouse High School musicians and a concert by Honley Male Voice Choir.
A CD of The Three Musketeers, performed by the Northern Ballet Theatre Orchestra, was recently recorded in St Martin’s.
Doors will open at 7pm, with the main concert starting at 8pm. Refreshments will be available and there will be a home produce stall selling jams, cakes and preserves. Tickets from 01484 722785.
