With Christmas fast approaching, this year's top toys have been announced , and there's something for everyone - dolls, animals, boards games and  toys with technology all feature on this year's list.

Every year the list consists of different toys, as well as 'new and improved' games that are neither new or improved.

This year's list got us at the Examiner thinking; how much have toys and games changed over the years?

What happened to simple and easy to play games? Games that don't require batteries or instructions? Games that the whole family can play?
