IF YOU like South American music then here’s the concert for you.

INCA is an innovative music project that consists of five talented musicians who come together to create a rhythmic and playful fusion of Bolivian, Mexican and Peruvian folk music.

The group brings its taste of South America to the Square Chapel in Halifax on February 9 at 7.30pm.

They promise an evening of foot-thumping fiesta tunes and poignant protest melodies.

The musicians play a range of traditional instruments which include the charango, a stringed instrument of the lute family; the Andean panflutes that are tuned to the correct pitch by placing small pebbles or dry corn kernels in the bottom and the Chilean guitarron, a stringed instrument that dates back to 16th century Chile.

INCA’s music has a rich intricacy that captures the passion and excitement of South American folk music.

All the musicians have impressive credentials, including working on the soundtracks of blockbuster films and performing with a host of well-known orchestras.

Tony Hinnigan is an expert on indigenous wind instruments and his panpipe playing features heavily on the soundtrack of the 1986 film, The Mission.

Anna Noakes regularly broadcasts for BBC Radio 3, has recorded several albums and received Gramophone Magazine’s Critic’s Choice Award.

Julie Murray is a flautist who has performed with Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic and Opera North.

Gary Kettel is a sought-after percussion player who has worked on the Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean film series and guitarist Grant McFarlane Dowse has performed with renowned Cuban composer Leo Brouwer.
