The Huddersfield Singers chamber choir of around 30 members is playing in Crosland Moor tomorrow. Sat, Dec 7.

The choir, which was formed in 1875 as the Huddersfield Glee & Madrigal Society, performs a wide variety of sacred and secular music from all periods of musical history, ranging from the medieval to the present day.

The choir is hosting a winter concert at St Barnabas’ Church, Crosland Moor, at 7.30pm tomorrow. Tickets are £11, £10 concessions and £3.50 for students/juniors. The choir will be singing works by Charpentier, Faure, Debussy and Poulenc.

The guest soloist is organist Darius Battiwalla who has been music director of the Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus since 1997 and a teacher at the Royal Northern College of Music for 10 years. He has given organ recitals at cathedrals  including Westminster Abbey and York Minster. He has also had some of his compositions performed by the Black Dyke band and Huddersfield Choral Society.

The choir is always keen to welcome new members of all voice parts. Weekly rehearsals take place on Monday evenings between 7.30pm and 9.30pm at the Huddersfield Methodist Mission on Lord Street, Huddersfield.
