HE IS a trombone player with an international reputation.

They are a band with their sights set on a trip to the National Brass Band Championship.

Together Dennis Rollins and Skelmanthorpe B Band aim to lift the roof at a fund-raising concert at Shelley next Friday (June 21).

Also on stage will be the young musicians of Shelley College Big Band and they will feel right at home as the concert is in the college’s new theatre space.

Earlier this year, the band clinched promotion to section two and its good showing at the regional Finals for Brass Bands in Bradford won it an invitation to the nationals in Cheltenham in September.

Next week’s concert is a rightful celebration of musical skill and ambition and another step on the road to the nationals as the band continues to raise money to fund the trip.

They couldn’t have anyone better to headline this feast of brass than Dennis Rollins who has been at the forefront of the UK jazz, funk and pop scenes for more than 25 years.

Dennis has a reputation not just for his skill but for his unique and stylish approach to playing trombone.

He’s internationally renowned and here in Huddersfield is a big favourite with supporters of Marsden Jazz Festival after a number of visits there in recent years.

Next Friday’s concert is at 7.30pm. Enjoy a great night out and help send the band to Cheltenham.
