Travellers arriving at Huddersfield Railway Station have just passed through the region’s spectacular scenery at high speed - and may have failed to appreciate the view.

However, starting this week, those alighting from trains in the town are being given a second chance to feast their eyes on the region’s varied geography, as seen by local artists.

As part of the Yorkshire Festival, the station is hosting a special exhibition, ‘Navigating Yorkshire’, by the West Yorkshire Print Workshop.

In a partnership with Art Station, the Huddersfield arts organisation that stages regular shows in the public space of the station, the exhibition features the work of seven print makers who have all explored personal journeys in the county and used their experiences to inspire their art.

The station is a particularly apt venue for the collection as it is the very place where many visitors to Huddersfield will pass through on their way to see the Grand Depart of the Tour de France this summer.

West Yorkshire Print Workshop, based in Mirfield, will also be inviting members of the public to record their own personal experiences of Yorkshire on a large map of the county displayed at its Huddersfield Road studios. This collective mapping will celebrate the county and all the personal histories embedded in its landscape.

In addition, the print workshop is exhibiting the work of textile artist Lesley Bohanna, whose current focus is industrial landscape. Lesley will continue to work and exhibit new work during Le Tour.

Artists participating in the print exhibition at the station are: Gavin Campbell, Andrew Hambleton, Emily Harvey, Brian Hindmarch, Amy Hirst, Scarlette Homeshaw and Michelle Keegan. Also featured will be the textile work of Andrew Warburton.
