IT IS a great opportunity to hear some of the area’s bands going through their paces ahead of the Yorkshire Area contest.

Skelmanthorpe Band has invited other bands to join it on February 25 to showcase the respective set test pieces to be played at next month’s contest.

Bands from each of the five sections have been invited to perform a hymn tune and their set test piece in order to give them the benefit of performing the music in front of a live audience.

The event, at Pilling Lane Methodist Chapel, Skelmanthorpe, will begin at 6.30pm with Golcar Band.

Organiser Tim Stell said: “The aim is to give each of the bands an opportunity to play in a live environment as near to the contest date as possible and hopefully profit from performing in a different acoustic to their usual facilities”.

The bands taking part are:

4th Section: Golcar Band playing English Folk Song Suite (Ralph Vaughan Williams).

3rd Section: Skelmanthorpe B Band, Olympus (Philip Harper).

2nd Section: Strata Brass, Cross Patonce – (Goff Richards).

1st Section: Knottingley Silver, Mountain Views (Bertrand Moren).

Championship Section: Skelmanthorpe Band, The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (Derek Bourgeois).

There will be a nominal entrance fee on the night of £1. Refreshments will be available.
