IF you like your theatre to be inventive and visually powerful then Shifting Sands might just be the company for you.

This Derbyshire-based ensemble arrives at the LBT on Tuesday, February 19 with Deadline, a show which promises to be moving, comic and visually a real eye-popper.

The company, founded in 1998, has developed a reputation for creating a clown’s eye view of epic tales, classic texts as well as devising contemporary material.

Its work is based on a certain playfulness. Imagine Buster Keaton on stage at Stratford trying to be true to Shakespeare but with Laurel and Hardy directing.

In Deadline the group offers what is described as clown noir, a comic fantasy of deceit, double cross and murder.

You’ll be treated to a celebration of film noir, of detective films and femme fatales in an edgy piece of clown theatre. Comic, heartbreaking?

The piece, created by Andy Barrett is at the LBT for just one performance, at 7.30pm.

The piece is co-devised and directed by Gerry Flanagan, who has developed a reputation for his inventive, clown theatre and has worked with Theatre de Complicite.

Tickets are £10 (concessions £8) on 01484 430528.
