THERE are many Huddersfield area connections in Halifax Light Opera Society’s new production of the much-loved musical Annie which opened this week.

The cast features many people who have performed with Huddersfield theatrical societies or who live in the Huddersfield, Elland and Greetland areas – and that includes the show’s doggy star.

Sandy, who is adopted by the character of Annie in the show, is played by golden retriever Harry, the family pet of Mr and Mrs David Broadbent of Stainland.

The show opened at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax, on Wednesday and runs all week. Performances continue tonight and tomorrow when there is also a matinee.

The 30-strong adult cast is joined by almost 40 youngsters aged from six to 16.

Among the leading principals, as Miss Hannigan, is Cathryn Riley, of Mirfield, who has played leading roles with societies in Huddersfield, Brighouse and Halifax.

Others who have appeared with Huddersfield societies include Steve Convey, who plays ‘Daddy’ Warbucks, Peter McDonnell, Ashley Davis, Pippa Davis, Roy Greenwood, Hannah Wilkinson, Andrew Ingham, Malcolm Nowell and Phil Roberts.
