THE THRILLING sound of massed brass bands returns to Huddersfield Town Hall next month.

Brighouse and Rastrick Band aim to put a spring in everyone’s step with a concert played alongside Desford Colliery Band.

And all the musicians will be in marching form with a lively programme of music on March 21themed on Dances From Around The World.

You will hear everything from the classical ballet and opera scores from Swan Lake and Orpheus in the Underworld to the tunes known from the world of film such as Singing In the Rain and Slaughter on 10th Avenue.

This crowd pleasing programme will be conducted by BBC 2 presenter Frank Renton.

Alongside hosts Brighouse and Rastrick will be Desford Colliery Band, a great name from the past now making a comeback in the big time.

Desford has chalked up a number of recent contest victories and are currently Mineworkers, Midland Area and All England Masters’ champions. In earlier glory years they were crowned National Champions four times, also European and World champions.

While B and R relish the prospect of a massed concert the band has plenty of other commitments including visiting Manchester twice, for the Festival of Brass at the RNCM and then BBC Studio 7 to accompany the Young Brass Musicians of the Year semi-finalists. After a concert in Morley they then prepare for the Yorkshire Area contest in Bradford on March 8.

Tickets from Fawcetts Stationers, Brighouse tomorrow only (10am to noon ) and from February 11 from Kirklees Information offices.
