Thanks to the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, October is looking spectacularly spooky.

Hit Netflix series Stranger Things will be returning for a second instalment, whilst Amazon will be debuting its true-horror show Lore.

There is a whole host of films and TV shows viewers can indulge in in the upcoming weeks.

Mindhunter (series), October 13

In the late 1970s two FBI agents delve into the psychology of serial killers and rapists.

The 10-part thriller series is directed by David Fincher, who is also responsible for Gone Girl, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Social Network.

Mindhunter is based on a true crime book by John E. Douglas, of the same name. It follows the former FBI agent's experiences with the Behavioural Sciences Unit (BSU) and the creation of the Criminal Profiling Programme.

Fringe actress Anna Torv stars alongside Jonathan Groff (best-known for voicing Kristoff in Frozen).

The Babysitter (film) , October 13

A comedy-horror series about a boy called Cole, who stays up past his bedtime and discovers his babysitter is part of a satanic cult that will stop at nothing to keep him quiet.

Bella Thorne, who is also in another Netflix film called You Get Me, will star in the comedy-horror alongside Australian actress and model Samara Weaving.

1922 (film), October 20

The latest Stephen King adaptation tells the story of a man's confession to the murder of his wife.

The tale is told from the perspective of Wilfred James, who admits to killing his wife Arlette in Nebraska. But after he buries her body, he finds himself terrorized by rats and, as his life begins to unravel, becomes convinced his wife is haunting him.

Thomas Jane (Deep Blue Sea, The Punisher) stars as Wilfred, whilst House of Cards actress Molly Parker plays Arlette.

Stranger Things 2 (series), October 27

The first series was set in 1983 Indiana, where a young boy vanished into thin air. As friends, family and local police searched for answers, they were drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl who goes by the name Eleven.

Stranger Things 2 is set one year later and and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of what happened in series one. Will Byers has been rescued from the 'Upside Down' but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.

Original cast members Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard and Millie Bobby Brown will reprise their roles.

Lore (series), October 13

From the executive producer of The Walking Dead (Gale Anne Hurd), Lore promises to bring horror writer Aaron Mahnke's hit podcast series to life.

Each episode will follow a new story, combining documentary footage and cinematic scenes, to tell the gory origins of folklore tales.

True Blood's Kristin Bauer van Straten stars alongside Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day) and Fargo star Adam Goldberg.

Poltergeist (film), October 25

1982 supernatural-horror classic about a family living in Orange county, California. Things start to take a turn for the worse when they find out their home is haunted by a host of ghosts.

80s child star Heather O'Rourke, who was discovered by Steven Spielberg and tragically died at the age of 12, plays Carol Anne Freeling.

The Shining (film), October 28

Another Stephen King adaptation following the story of a family heading to an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence spurs the father into violence.

Three-time Oscar winner Jack Nicholson stars.
