At a loose end this weekend? There's nothing worse than working all week and then twiddling your thumbs come Saturday and Sunday.

Weather permitting there's loads you can get up to in easy reach of Huddersfield and the majority of things are free to enjoy.

Whether it's a wander around the historic Bolton Abbey in Skipton where you can soak up acres of beauty- or a family day out to Kirklees Light Railway which is sure to be a steaming success with the kids.

We've compiled a gallery, above, based on your suggestions of where best to spend a weekend.

The majority of things are free and those activities which do charge are still quite cheap.

We couldn't include all suggestions, so here are a few that nearly made it in:

Steve Lofty Morelli commented on Facebook: "Lunch in the Head of Steam and then on to Kings Head always good bands on, and then onto the Vulcan for yet more good bands."

Shaun Milner said: "Cannon Hall Farm or Castle Hill if you want to blow the cobwebs out."

Chris Green added: "Woodlands Play Gym in Meltham for anyone with young children!"

And if you just fancy a nice drive then I would take Michael McPhee's advice, he said: "Go for a drive over the tops (A640) into Milnrow of the moors into Delph and Glossop over Woodhead Pass then back through onto the M1 and go down to J38 past Yorkshire Sculpture Park through Flockton and Grange Moor and back into Brighouse."

If none of the above is your cup of tea then you could always go for a slap up meal, see our top 10 restaurants here . Alternatively if you can think of any better places to go then comment below.
