Today is international Star Wars day — can you feel the Force?

May 4 celebrates all things Star Wars, thanks to the clever play on words May the Fourth Be With You (geddit?).

Here in Kirklees there are 1,243 people who will certainly be celebrating - for that's the number of Jedi Knights living within the area!

A Jedi is a member of the mystical knightly order in the Star Wars films, trained to guard peace and justice in the Universe. Knight is a rank within the Jedi order, referring to Jedis who had completed their training and passed the Jedi Trials to become a full member.

When the 2001 Census took place, a campaign encouraging people to fill in the religion section with Jedi Knight resulted in 390,127 people identifying themselves as such across the UK.

By the 2011 Census, the number of Jedi Knights in the UK had fallen to 176,632, making it the ninth most common answer, while 263,346 people said they were Jewish and 247,743 people said they were Buddhists.

Leeds has the biggest congregation of Jedi Knights, with 2,812 living in the authority, but Brighton has the biggest concentration - with almost one per cent of the population identifying as a Jedi Knight.
