Fans of the Vulcan bomber XH558 in Kirklees and Calderdale are to be disappointed.

The historic aircraft will not be flying over our area as part of a farewell tour this weekend.

In fact, you will have to travel across to Greater Manchester, South Yorkshire or the very tip of West Yorkshire to see it.

The nearest spots to see it to Huddersfield will be on Saturday at City Airport in Manchester, above Stockport, Sheffield or in the skies over Wetherby as it flies from Brough in East Yorkshire to Menwith Hill near Harrogate.

If you decide to head over to Greater Manchester to see it the plane’s route means the Vulcan will pass over City Airport around 3pm - weather and operational requirements depending.

If clear it will then fly past Manchester Airport around 3.05pm before flying over Woodford Aerodome site at around 3:10pm.

Plans are that the bomber will cover towns and cities in the north of England on Saturday and switch to the south of the country on Sunday.

Those wishing to travel to City Airport to see the Vulcan fly overhead, are advised to arrive one to two hours early, especially if traveling by car.

Around 400 to 500 car parking spaces will be allocated for visitors, and parking will be controlled by staff.

The First Floor Balcony of the Control Tower will be open for viewing, however this will likely close once it has reached capacity.

This weekend's flights will not be the end for the Vulcan - there are two more flights planned, which are yet to be announced, for later in October.
