Freshers' Week - seven days of meeting new people, socialising and generally drinking more than you should!

It's a week to remember (somewhat fuzzily) for most students - and Huddersfield Students' Union has planned a week of events to help newcomers settle into university life.

Here's their what's on guide for Freshers' Week:

MONDAY

  • Freshers' Fair Part I - Free stuff, discount vouchers and bags of societies looking to sign you up for the coming year - Freshers' Fairs are a Freshers' Week staple. Bag yourself some freebies, save some money with voucher books and find see which society or sports club tickles your fancy. And get there early to beat the crowds! Sports Hall, Campus, 10am-3.30pm.

  • HudCrawl - Have you got your tickets for HudCrawl - we hope so - because it's sold out! Huddersfield's official Freshers' Bar Crawl is a fun way to get to know Huddersfield's bars and clubs, and meet your fellow freshers! Up to 1,500 students join the town centre tour, with drinks offers galore, free sweets, free bottled water and stewards who join the crawl to make sure you have a fantastic night. T-shirt pick-up at the Students' Union 6pm, crawl 7pm-late.
     

 

TUESDAY

  • Freshers' Fair Part II - If you missed Part I, or just can't get enough, head to Part II of the Union's Freshers' Fair bonanza for more freebies, discount vouchers and new stalls. The sports clubs and societies will be there again too, should you want to sign up. Again, get there early - it will be busy! Sports Hall, Campus, 10am-3.30pm.

  • HudMovies - Calling all film fans - head to the Student Union for a relaxing evening watching classic films voted for by you. The union even provides popcorn and pop - the perfect evening if you're looking to take a break from the nightlife. The event is free - get there early for the best seats. Students' Union, Floor 5, Student Central, Campus, 5pm-10pm.

WEDNESDAY            

  • Campus Tea Party - Can you grin like the Cheshire Cat? Are you mad as a hatter? Or perhaps you want to celebrate your unbirthday? Well, the Student Union has it covered with their Alice in Wonderland-themed tea party. Enjoy a slice of cake and a cuppa, plus meet the Union's executive officers and find out how they can support you during your time at university. Tea, coffee and cakes are free. Students' Union, Floor 5, Student Central, Campus, 11am-3pm.

  • Bavarian Night - The first social event for the Union's clubs and societies promises to be a lively one - complete with oompah band! Don your finest lederhosen and German fancy dress (the Union has bagged a cracking deal for students here) and pop the dates of upcoming society socials in your diaries. Bavarian night is free. Rhubarb, Huddersfield, 9pm-late.

THURSDAY

  • Wacky Bikes - Relive the excitement of the Tour de France Grand Depart in Yorkshire with this fun event in partnership with Huddersfield Active Travel. Have a go on bikes of all sizes, tandems, penny farthings - the weird and wonderful of the cycling world. Send a snap from the day to the union via Instagram with the hashtag #wackybikes and you could win event tickets. Plaza, Campus, 10am-3.30pm.
  • HudComedy@LBT -  One of the most popular events of Freshers' Week is a night of stellar comedy at the Lawrence Batley Theatre - and unsurprisingly, the gig has already sold out. Lucky ticket holders can tickle their funnybones at HudComedy, headlined this year by Chris Ramsey of Celebrity Juice, Mock and Week and 8 of of 10 Cats fame. He'll be joined by Nathan Caton, Adam Rowe (compere), Andrew Watts and Ruth E Cockburn. Lawrence Batley Theatre, 7pm-10pm.

FRIDAY

  • HudLive - Live music, top DJs and a few secret surprises - HudLive is the event of Huddersfield Freshers', and a night you do not want to miss. Building on the success of las year's Hudfest, HudLive will create a real festival experience, complete with top acts including DJ Fresh, BBC Radio 1's Huw Stephens, Little Nikkia and video DJ Beat A Maxx, food tents, chill out zones and (hopefully) some good weather. Keep your ears open this week for further announcements about the fun in store - and bag your tickets here. Storthes Hall, Huddersfield, 5pm-midnight.

SATURDAY

  • Huddersfield Town v Millwall - Show your support for the Terriers and cheer on Town as they take on Millwall at the John Smith's Stadium, Huddersfield. If you pop down to Monday's Freshers Fair, Huddersfield Town will be there selling 200 tickets for just £1 each - don't miss out! John Smith's Stadium, 3pm kick off.

SUNDAY

  • HudQuiz - See how sharp you are after a week of Freshers' fun and you could win £250! Gather your finest quiz team, come up with a suitably hilarious team name and test your knowledge at HudQuiz - you have to be in it to win it. You don't need to buy a ticket - but get their early to bag a good spot. Rhubarb, 7pm-late.

  • Come Dine With Hud - Who says student food is all about beans on toast, pasta and leftover pizza? If you've bagged a ticket for this sold out event, you will be able to enjt some posh grub and tour round Huddersfield's classiest establishments, with a different course served at every stop. Discover Huddersfield's hidden foodie gems and enjoy fine food and drink to balance out all the cheap lager and takeaways you've been guzzling. Various locations, Huddersfield, 4pm-8.30pm.
