If you fancy transforming a landmark Huddersfield building that’s fallen on hard times you’d better be quick.

Surveyors Walker Singleton are inviting expressions of interest from anyone who’d like to revamp the former Co-op building, on New Street.

But interested businesses and organisations need to submit their ideas for the building by August 31.

The 79-year-old, six-storey premises opened as a department store but was later the home of Heaven and Hell nightclub as well as a music school.

Take a tour inside the property below.

The building could be converted into shops on the lower floors with apartments above.

It is hoped redevelopment of the building could stimulate regeneration on the rundown south end of New Street.

Walker Singleton director Steve Molloy said: “It could improve that end of New Street where there’s a high concentration of pound shops and the like.

“This is a landmark position on the end of the street.

It’s very visible and we would like to think it could start redevelopment with that end of the street.”
